About UsGlen Hills Middle School is fortunate to be able to provide choral music education to students in grades 4-5. The younger grades rehearse every other day, and the older ensembles rehearse on a daily basis. They perform music from a variety of cultures, periods, genres, and traditions throughout the academic year. Through this repertoire, they learn valuable musical, cultural, and social lessons that will help them as they move on in their musical lives and make them better citizens in their communities.
The goal of GHMS' choral department is to provide every singer with a rich musical experience to help him or her to develop as musicians, students, and future leaders of our community through the power and discipline of music. |
Why does arts education matter?"To remain competitive in the global economy, America needs to reinvigorate the kind of creativity and innovation that has made this country great. To do so, we must nourish our children’s creative skills. In addition to giving our children the science and math skills they need to compete in the new global context, we should also encourage the ability to think creatively that comes from a meaningful arts education."

Why does choir matter?"Choral music is not one of life’s frills. It’s something that goes to the very heart of our humanity, our sense of community, and our souls. You express, when you sing, your soul in song. And when you get together with a group of other singers, it becomes more than the sum of the parts. All of those people are pouring out their hearts and souls in perfect harmony, which is kind of an emblem for what we need in this world."
